BERLIN PROSTO defeats FC POLONIA 2:1!

It was that time of year again when PROSTO and POLONIA clashed heads in the most anticipated game of the season. Two former F.C Polonia players scored for PROSTO giving the team a well deserved 3 points. With over 100 fans at "Polanka", Berlin PROSTO hosted F.C Polonia Falcons in what everyone called the most anticipated game of the 2009 fall season. Under a new coach Edward Wilczynski and his new style of play, PROSTO came into this game not only to show the new coach what they're capable of, but also to take the 3 points away from a semi-finalist from last year's CSL Play-Offs. The visiting team came into this game without their starting goalkeeper W.Sobotka who received a red card last game and had to sit this one out. Polonia was also missing their key mid-fielder K.Korczak. Despite the missing players, it was the F.C Polonia who took the lead first. K. Legowski played a ball inside the box to an unmarked T. Anielo who knocked one in from 2 yards out. But PROSTO answered right back with a great goal by Adrian Maselek, assisted by Marcin Winiarski. Winiarski played an excellent ball to Maselek who headed it in over Polonia's goalkeeper to tie the game. Right before the half, A. Maselek returned the favor and crossed one in to M. Winiarski who beat the goalkeeper from a close range to what it turned out to be a game winning goal. In the second half, frustrated Polonia players instead of focusing on the game were focusing on getting in arguments with the referee and collecting numerous yellow cards. A total of 7 yellow cards were shown in this game by the referee. In the 70th minute, Kris Labanowicz nearly sealed the game with a brilliant shot from outside the box. Labanowicz's shot from 25 yards out floated over the goalkeeper but unfortunately hit the post. With 20 minutes left the game was far from being over. Polonia created several dangerous plays, but PROSTO's excellent quartet in the back including G. Kuzniar, E.Zygo, B. Goral and Bert Edward did not allow Polonia's strikers to get a clear shot on goal. In the 85th minute the referee awarded Polonia a questionable penalty kick, after G. Kuzniar fouled one of the Polonia players at the edge of the penalty box. Lee Owler stepped in to take the shot but PROSTO's goalkeeper Mark Pataky who was one of the best players on the field Sunday night, came out on top. At the end it was the whole team's effort that won the game. Every player contributed to this well deserved 2-1 win. The fans also contributed to this win by playing as the 12th man for PROSTO. This was Berlin PROSTO's last game of the 2009 fall season. The team finished 7th in the Connecticut Soccer League with 13 points. The second part of the season which will begin in mid March, will sure look promising for PROSTO as they will compete for the final 6 spots which will qualify them for the 2010 CSL play-offs. The team would also like to thank all the sponsors who contributed to this successful season, as well as the #1 fans in the league that supported the team throughout the season. THANK YOU AND WE'LL SEE YOU BACK IN 2010!

BERLIN PROSTO TIES #10 NEWTOWN 2-2

After a poor performance Berlin PROSTO tied #10 Newtown 2-2 Tuesday night at Sage Park in Berlin, CT. The home team came out flat from the beginning where Newtown which surprisingly played a very good game, attacked PROSTO’s goal first. PROSTO’s defense that never really got into the game made it easy for the visiting team to score their first goal. Newtown’s striker found himself one-on-one with Mark Pataky and gave Newtown the early lead. Adrian Maselek scored the equalizer in the 35th minute assisted by Marcin Just. At half-time PROSTO’s coach made a few changes, but that didn’t change much. (Demar) who missed most of the season due to personal reasons substituted David Ferero up top and Marcin Winiarski substituted Adrian Zygo. In the second half it was the visiting team again who controlled most of the game. Frustrated PROSTO team started giving up on each other which resulted in another easy goal for Newtown. In the 75th minute, luckily for PROSTO Newtown’s goalkeeper slipped on a wet turf and Adrian Maselek put the ball in the back of the net to tie the game. The score remained a tie for the rest of the game giving both teams 1 point. With the team’s recent poor results, P. Buksza resigned as PROSTO’s head coach. No word as of yet who will take over the coaching position. With today’s tie, Berlin PROSTO advanced to #6 spot in the Connecticut Soccer League where Newtown remained at #10 with 4 points. Next up for PROSTO is a home game versus the CSL Champions from last year and the current CSL leaders Danbury United. In their last meeting Danbury United defeated Berlin Prosto 4-1. The kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m this Sunday at Sage Park in Berlin, CT.

Cabo Verde Bridgeport - Berlin Prosto SC 1:2

Last Sunday, Berlin PROSTO traveled to the University of Bridgeport campus to take on Cape Verde. Cape Verde re-joined the Connecticut Soccer League this year after being absent for the past couple of seasons. The game started great for the visiting team from New Britain. In the 1st minute of the game E. Zygo crossed the ball into the box where Adrian Maselek flicked the ball passed Cape Verde’s goalkeeper to give PROSTO the early lead. Surprisingly, after the goal neither team was able to construct creative plays. The ugly play continued from both sides. In the 40th minute, Cape Verde’s striker broke away from PROSTO’s defenders and was brought down inside the box by Tomasz Ostynski. M. Kenado converted the penalty kick to tie the game 1-1. At the half, coach P. Buksza made 2 substitutions with a hope to organize the game in the midfield. Unfortunately the sloppy play continued. Fatigue was an obvious issue PROSTO players struggled with in this game. Roman Hudzyak who came into this game with a back injury, had to come off the field half way through the second half. With 15 minutes left in the game, PROSTO’s defender Brian Goral who is the tallest player on the team measuring 6’5” ran up the field for a corner kick. After a mix up inside the box, the ball hit the cross bar and Brian Goral headed the ball inside the net to give Berlin PROSTO the lead again. The last 15 minutes looked like the rest of the game with dreadful play from both sides. The score remained 2-1 in favor of the visiting team. Mark Pataky, without a doubt deserves the Most Valuable Player of the game award. With his outstanding saves in goal, PROSTO was able to get the 3 points away from this game and move up to 6th place in the CSL. Next up for PROSTO is an away game versus the runner up of the championship game last season the Olympia Stamford. In their last meeting, Berlin PROSTO surprised everyone by defeating Olympia 2-0 in Stamford. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 8:30 p.m at Kosciuszko Park in Stamford, Conn.

PROSTO looses two straight games, drops down to 5th place

On Thursday night Berlin PROSTO took on a visiting team from Glastonbury at Falcon Field in New Britain, CT. Both teams came into this game with the same amount of points along with 3 other teams, so the three points were crucial. Grzegorz Kuzniar a former F.C Polonia player made his first appearance for Berlin PROSTO after being out from the game for a year. PROSTO started the game without their goalkeeper Mark Pataky. Right from the start Celtic noticed PROSTO’s weakness and with the first shot on goal jumped ahead 1-0 at the 1 min mark. Despite a few more scoring chances by Celtic, their lead didn’t last long. Kris Labanowicz intercepted the ball at the half field and played an excellent ball to striker Adrian Maselek who then played a through ball to Marcin Just for a brilliant finish to tie the game 1-1. At the half, coach Przemek Bukasza substituted Emerson Jean Marie and Enzo Faienza to spark up some offensive play. In the second half both teams had their chances but failed to capitalize. Finally in the 70th minute C. Markinel of Glastonbury scored a superb goal from 25 yards out to give Celtic the lead again. With 15 minutes left in the game, J. Dasilveira of Glastonbury received his second yellow card and was rejected from the game. Despite playing a man up, PROSTO wasn’t able to equalize the game and the scored remained 1-2 for the rest of the game giving Glastonbury Celtic the 3 points. With this loss, Berlin PROSTO dropped down to 5th place in the CSL. Last week PROSTO suffered their first loss of the season to Brazil Squad 2-4 after being ahead 2-0 on goals by Marcin Winiarski. Next up for Berlin PROSTO is Newtown Soccer Club which currently holds the 9th place in CSL.

Bridgeport Italians - Berlin Prosto SC 2:4

Berlin PROSTO S.C earned their second victory of the season by defeating Bridgeport Italians 4-2. PROSTO played a very organized game. A recent additions to the team Marcin "Cino" Just and Brian Goral who is a very experienced defender, helped to control the game in the back while Adrian Maselek was unstoppable up top. Brian Goral joined PROSTO S.C after a long break from the game due to a knee injury he suffered while still playing for F.C Polonia. Bridgeport came into this game playing a man down which was a perfect opportunity for PROSTO to take the lead early. That’s exactly what the team did. Damian Urban found himself open in the box and beat the keeper with a shot from a short distance. Bridgeport answered right back with a great goal just 10 minutes after PROSTO took the lead. Before the half, Adrian Maselek gave PROSTO the lead again with a shot from outside the box to the near post. Being only a goal down, the Bridgeport Italians came out for the second half believing they could still win this game. They’ve created very dangerous scoring opportunities, but Mark Pataky who was outstanding in goal that day prevented the home team from tying the game. PROSTO knew that if they did not score one more goal this game could go either way. In the 65th minute Marcin Just shot deflected off Adrian Maselek and went into the net. Ernest Zygo sealed the game in the 75th minute after giving PROSTO a 4-1 lead. Demar Mesquista made a great run down the right wing and played a brilliant ball to E. Zygo who gave no chance to Bridgeport’s goalkeeper. In the added time Mendes scored Bridgeport’s second goal of the day, but that wasn’t enough to beat the visiting team from New Britain. Berlin PROSTO S.C earned their second victory of the season and with 6 points stands in 3rd place in the Connecticut Soccer League just behind Danbury United and F.C Polonia on goal differential. Next, the team will travel to Bridgeport, CT again to take on the Brazil Squad at 3.pm. For directions to the game please visit www.ctsoccerleague.com.

Berlin Prosto - Hartford Ports 2:0

Berlin PROSTO S.C defeated the Hartford PORTS 2 : 0 in the season opener Sunday afternoon at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. PROSTO came out for this game with some new faces on the team including 2 new goalkeepers Mark Pataky and Jeff Gregor. The team struggled last season without a solid goalkeeper who would boost the teams confidence in the back. In the off-season the team's management did a lot of great recruiting. PROSTO signed 6 new players. (Enzo Faienza, Emerson Jean Marie, Marcin Just, Demar Mesquista, Edward Bogle, Mark Pataky and Jeff Gregor). Right from the start, PROSTO pressured Hartford Ports defense by creating great scoring opportunities. Hartford tried to answer back but PROSTO's defense looked very solid and did not allow Hartford to take the lead in the game. In the 35th minute, Ernest Zygo received a great pass from Andrzej Maselek and with a shot to the near post beat Hartford's goalkeeper to give PROSTO the lead. In the second half, it was the visiting team who took control of the game. Hartford's strikers found some holes in PROSTO's defense and nearly tied the game. Lucky enough, Damian Urban scored a beautiful goal in the 70th minute to give PROSTO a 2-0 lead which downed Hartford Ports and the home team looked like they have regained the control of the match. The remainder of the game did not bring any surprises as both teams looked tired and ready to end the game. After 90+ minutes, the referee blew the whistle and PROSTO S.C recorded their first win of the season. After the game PROSTO's coach Przemek Buksza was happy with the win, but said that there is still a lot of room for improvement. This week the team will prepare for their next game against the Bridgeport Italians. The kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m in Trumbull, CT. Last time the two teams met, it was the team from Bridgeport who won the game 6-2. For directions to the game please visit www.ctsoccerleague.com.

In just few days Berlin PROSTO S.C, (formerly known as New Britain PROSTO S.C) will kick-off their third season in the CSL. The team has been preparing all summer for this upcoming season by participating in numerous tournaments, including the biggest Polish tournament in North America (XXIV Pilkarskie Mistrzostwa Druzyn Polonijnych Ameryki Polnocnej) which was held in New York City. PROSTO S.C also played couple friendly matches, including a recent one against a professional squad from Massachusetts (Western Mass. Pioneers) which currently participate at the 3rd division level in the United Soccer League. PROSTO S.C surprised everyone and came out on top in this game by beating the Pioneers mixed with Gremio Lusitano squad 2-1 on their home field! On Sunday, Berlin PROSTO S.C will host their first opponent of the 2009/10 season the Hartford Ports. The last time two teams met, PROSTO S.C won the game 5-0 at Stanley Quarter Park. With some major changes to the team, including a name change as well as some changes in the roster, the Berlin PROSTO S.C will aim to be a serious contender for this season top 3 team.

NEW GOALKEEPER IN PROSTO!

After few games without the goalie PROSTO finally found a new keeper- Adam Perron.

MASELEK BROTHERS DEBUTED FOR PROSTO!

FLAVIENSE DEFEATS NB PROSTO

A combination of red cards and poor second half performance caused PROSTO to loose the game and drop down to #8 spot in the CSL. The home team was first to create dangerous scoring opportunities, but was unable to put the ball in the back of the net which has been the team's biggest problem since the beginning of the season. Finally, in the 30th minute of the game Adrian Zygo played a brilliant ball to Marcin Winiarski who beat Flaviense's goalkeeper to the far post to put PROSTO ahead 1-0. Just few minutes after Winiarski's goal, B.S Flaviense capitalized on PROSTO'S mistake and scored an equalizer. N.B PROSTO failed to set up a wall in time and with a quick restart one of the Flaviense's players sneaked up behind PROSTO'S defense and beat D. Urban to tie the game 1-1. PROSTO'S coach P. Buksza was rejected from the game on the same play after he disagreed with the referee's decision to start the play before the whistle was blown. Things just got worse for PROSTO in the second half. N.B PROSTO defenders failed to mark up B.S Flaviense players inside the box and the visiting team from Bridgeport scored another goal to take the lead. The home team was close to scoring an equalizer but failed to release a good final shot inside the Flaviense penalty box. All the missed scoring opportunities came back to haunt PROSTO. B.S Flaviense scored their 3rd goal of the game in the 75th minute. It was hard to believe the home team could come back to tie this game the way things were going for them. The goal scorer Marcin Winiarski received his second yellow card and was rejected from the game to leave PROSTO playing a man down. With 10 minutes to go, substitute Salko Kolarevic who just came in the game received a straight red card after a brutal foul on the Flaviense player. With only 9 players on the field and the head coach in the stands there was nothing else PROSTO could have done but to wait for the final whistle. In the last minute of the game, the referee awarded PROSTO a penalty kick but Ernest Zygo's shot was blocked by Flaviense's goalkeeper. The game ended 3-1 (1-1) in favor of B.S Flaviense. As a reminder, New Britain PROSTO S.C will travel to Bridgeport next Sunday to take on the #3 team in the CSL Vasco De Gama. The kick-off time is scheduled for 5:00p.m.

NB PROSTO WINS AGAIN!!!

On a rainy Sunday afternoon, New Britain PROSTO traveled to Hartford without their 5 starters to take on the Hartford United. PROSTO needed to win this game in order to still be in the play-off race this season. It was a great start for PROSTO. In the 10th minute of the game, Michal Zuber took a header towards Hartford goal. Despite a great effort to clear the ball from the goal line, one of Hartford defenders knocked the ball inside the goal for an own goal to give PROSTO a 1-0 lead. Just a few minutes after jumping ahead 1-0, PROSTO'S defender left D. Mesquita unmarked inside the penalty box. Mesquita gave no chance to PROSTO'S goalkeeper by placing a nice shot in the upper right corner to tie the game 1-1. PROSTO had couple more chances to take the lead again. Including a nice combination play from Zuber who gave a pass to Labanowicz who than played a one touch through ball to Cruz, but Hartford's goalkeeper made a spectacular save from a 3 yard shot by Oscar Cruz. The score remained 1-1 for the rest of the first half. In the second half PROSTO needed to capitalize on their scoring chances if they were thinking about winning this game. As Hartford continued to pepper PROSTO'S goal with shots, the visiting team counter attacked in the 65th minute and took the lead again. Patryk "RAHA" Godlewski played a ball across the penalty box to Oscar Cruz who beat the goalkeeper in his debut. But PROSTO knew that a one goal lead might not be enough to beat the home team as they continued to create dangerous plays inside PROSTO'S penalty box. Finally in the 77th minute, Ernest Zygo shot the ball in the lower right corner assisted by Kris Labanowicz to give PROSTO a comfortable 3-1 lead over the Hartford United. E. Zygo would have a chance to score his second goal of the game, but his free-kick shot from 20 yards out hit the cross bar. N.B PROSTO had a chance to seal the game in the 83rd minute, but Labanowicz powerful shot from 25 yards out nearly missed the goal. In the added time, PROSTO dropped back and cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Hartford United to advance one spot to #7 in the CSL.

PROSTO crashed Polonia Falcon Junior team 8:1 in a scrimmage

Just 2 days after defeating Olympia Stamford, N.B. PROSTO played a scrimmage versus the White Eagles in New Britain, CT. The opponent wasn't a high caliber team, but that's exactly what PROSTO needed. The team needed to practice finishing goal scoring chances and work on the possession. The game also gave other players a chance to show their skills to coach Buksza. The final score of the game ended up 8-1 in favor of New Britain PROSTO S.C. After the game coach Bukasza said he was pleased with the team's discipline and finally the ability to finish goal scoring opportunities.
